15 Questions to Ask At Career Fairs
Its game time: you’re looking good, smelling good, and feeling good. But what feels better than just a nice suit? Confidence! With confidence requires knowledge.
Before you start asking questions, learn your industry! Need help on your research? Check out my latest article: Researching Companies at Career Fairs.
The economy and world is constantly evolving. It’s more than obvious that companies that are standing five and twenty years from now have to be on the cutting edge.
You want to be a part of the company that is evolving, not existing. And this company wants an employee with this same goal.
Your questions must demonstrate that you share the same ambition, have done your research, and want to gain insights.
Ask your next future employer these questions:
What was your career path?
What is your company’s personnel goal in recruiting and retaining talent?
How does your company keep itself involved in social media?
What direction do you believe your company will be headed in the next five years?
Can I contact you in the future?
What position(s) in your company are pathways to promotional career paths?
How do you promote in your company? Fill open positions?
How does your current employee stay abreast and involved with company and industry updates?
What are some hidden or secret benefits to your company?
How does your company evaluate and plan innovative projects?
What is a measure of success in the ________ position?
What steps are necessary for me to be considered a prime candidate?
What type of training does your company offer?
What are the core values for your company and is it demonstrated?
Is your company international and if not, are they looking to expand presence in other countries?
Questions like these make employers immediately identify you as person looking for a career, not a job. These questions will make great spring boards into other conversations and hopefully this company will meet your needs and desires as well. Make sure you take notes of each of these companies immediately after the fair. Make sure to share your contact information and follow up with all contacts you receive. Remember, knowledge is power. So empower yourself, seek the wisdom: A mocker seeks wisdom and never finds it, but knowledge comes easily to those with understanding Proverbs 14:6 (NLT).
