Black Fatherhood Research Study
Researchers at the University of Kentucky, Department of Family Sciences are conducting a study about the parenting experiences of Black fathers who have at least one child not living in their home 24/7. More needs to be known about what it’s like to parent when your children do not live with you 24/7 and how to help both parents build a healthy co-parenting relationship.
You may be eligible to participate if:
you are a Black father living in Kentucky or Southern Indiana;
you have at least one child between the ages of 2 to 17 who does not
live in your home 24/7; and
you are willing to complete an online survey.
Research Investigator: Katrina Taylor Akande (Ph.D. candidate)
Fathers who complete the survey will receive gift cards to local retail stores, movie theaters, or restaurants.
The study website is www.wix.com/katrinaakande/blackfathers . To receive the online survey, fathers can call 859-544-9194 or send an email to Katrina.Akande@uky.edu.
Comments from fathers who have completed the survey include:
People should take the survey before entering into a relationship.
…made me think about how she is supporting my role as well as how I am supporting her as a mother.
I’m glad the voices of Black fathers can be heard.
…not what I had expected in a survey. This is food for thought.
