Curb Your Appetite, Not Your Enthusiasm!
As the excitement of the new year fades, you may begin to lose your enthusiasm for the resolutions of health that you made. That one day break from the gym you earned turned into an ever increasing pattern of of three or four day gaps between workouts. But to your surprise you feel more hungry than when you were more active! And with Valentine’s Day right around the corner, you’re going to need some strategies for reducing your appetite and fighting cravings.
1) Drink water – Drinking 8 ounces or more of water either at the onset of a craving or right before a meal will help you to feel full and eat less. Staying well hydrated also prevents your body from telling you to eat more in an attempt to rehydrate itself indirectly.
2) Fiber & protein – Fiber from raw fruits and vegetables as well as protein will make you feel fuller longer and help you to eat less, in addition to eliminating your cravings for sugar.
3) Almonds – Eating almonds will supply your body with good fats and protein which will make you feel full without the need to consume a lot of calories. Raw almonds are best, but if they are not available, try to get an unflavored roasted variety to avoid extra salt, which will make you feel hungrier.
4) Green tea – Drink green tea! It’s a natural appetite suppressant and also helps you burn fat. Try to drink it without adding sugar or honey, as these will spike your blood sugar and increase your appetite.
5) Hot sauce – Throw some hot sauce on it! The capsaicin in hot sauce and other spicy foods like chili peppers suppress the hunger inducing hormone ghrelin while increasing the appetite suppressing hormone GLP-1.
