Divine Inspiration – What Are We Gonna Do?
Soon it will be Valentine’s Day and everyone will either be thinking about the love they have, the love they want or the love they used to have in their lives. But, I really want to know the answer to what Heavy D and The Boyz were asking in their song, “Now that WE have love, what are WE gonna do with it?”
If you have a significant other and you say you love them, what are you doing with that love? Think about doing the kinds of things that keep your relationship alive and healthy. Do you have children? Love is not about buying gifts and allowing them to do whatever they want at home. Teach them love by showing them what it means to respect themselves and others, that you love them enough to provide tough discipline because life is a much harder teacher, and that loving them is not being their best friend, rather a parent they can depend on and look up to no matter what they are going through. Are you single? How will you show your love this season? Take time to visit the elderly, celebrate where you are in life, take a trip to visit a friend, volunteer at a shelter, become a Big Brother or Big Sister, and allow your singleness to bless someone else.
Real love is never looking for something in return. It is an action word. God shows us every single day how to give our love away but we are too busy holding onto it to believe that love will always make your heart lighter, soul richer, and life filled to overflowing. When you love without reservation and conditions, it always comes back to you. It may not look the way you want (marriage, kids, lover, etc.) but it always comes back. Many times it is far greater than you could have thought or imagined (Luke 6:38).
Real love can’t be measured because it just is…. When we find something as precious as real love, we need to always do something with it. Keep it close, appreciate it, celebrate that we were able to find it in the first place, and continually share it with others.
