The Cost of Cold Feet

Watch out brothers.

You might want to think twice now about leaving your lady standing at the alter.  Some men, and even some ladies, are known for having cold feet when it comes to getting hitched.  Afterall, marriage is a huge commitment and always a life-changing event.  So I cannot naturally say I blame them.

Some women have had their fifteen seconds of fame due to famous breakups before the wedding day.  Some are sad but none are funny to the person left at the alter.  I could not imagine my big day, with hundreds of guests waiting for “the show” to begin and having to sadly announce it’s a no-go due to cold feet.  I would not be sure whether to cry or get even.

Well, RoseMary Shell, of Florida, sued her beau of some time Wayne Gibbs for breach of contract after he called cancelled their wedding a few days before the big day.  According to her, she quit her NICELY paying job in Florida and moved to Georgia for him.  She essentially gave up everything in hopes of becoming the new Mrs. Gibbs.  When he broke it off (and cheated by starting a relationship with another woman), WO!  He should have known to watch out.  Like the saying goes Hell hath no fury like the women scorn!  She must have thought “Oh you gonna marry me….or else!”  And “else” is exactly what happened.  Apparently, he had let her quit her job (which now she is making about $50,000 less) leave her home, etc. for him.

Now when I heard the story, you know I thought “Man! I wish I was a fly on that wall.”  Hope I can order the trial from Court TV or something.  I would love to hear the legal arguments and to know if she screamed at him on the stand and shook her head like we women do when we’re pissed or if she played the broken hearted role and wept and sobbed uncontrollably to make the six-woman, six-man jury panel cry.   Shoot, I want to know what the deliberations were like, although I did see on ABC’s morning show one juror said they thought the he would have paid less if he had just gone through with the wedding and divorced her a few days later.

Schell won a verdict.  So Gibbs, her ex-fiancé which I bet wish he never met nor crossed her, has to pay her $150,000.  The real kicker is that was not enough for her.  She reportedly is taking him back to court to get more in punitive damages.  Dag, Ms. Schell, if he does not get this verdict overturned on appeal somehow, you are ruining marriage hopes for sistas all over the world!  Sorry ladies.
