Think About It… The Mystery of God

“We don’t worship things we understand, we worship things we don’t understand. That’s why we don’t worship the sun and the moon anymore.”

Kerry Shook- (1962-    ) best-selling author and Senior Pastor of Fellowship of the Woodlands, Woodland, Texas

Many of us unknowingly seek to take the mystery out of God by trying to understand the logic behind everything He does or allows to happen. We persistently ask, “Why God, why? When God, when?”

When Job, the wealthy land and livestock owner from Uz, lost all of his children and material possessions and was stricken with a “terrible case of boils from head to foot”, he couldn’t understand why.Have I sinned? What have I done to you, O watcher of all humanity? Why have you made me your target?” Job 7:20 “All I want is a reasonable answer—then I will keep quiet.” Job 6:24

Not knowing the reason why he suffered, tormented Job more than his actual physical suffering. But in the end, the supreme knowledge and omnipotence of God became very apparent to Job. He learned the matchless benefit of knowing God over knowing answers.

Then Job replied to the LORD: “I know that you can do anything, and no one can stop you. You ask, ‘Who is this that questions my wisdom with such ignorance?’ It is I. And I was talking about things I did not understand, things far too wonderful for me. “I had heard about you before, but now I have seen you with my own eyes.

Job 42:1-3,5 (NLT)

If we were ever able to fully understood God, we would lose reverence and awe for Him, and reduce Him to our own human level. Stop trying to figure God out and just trust and worship Him.

MAKE A joyful noise to the Lord, all you lands!

2Serve (worship) the Lord with gladness! Come before His presence with singing!

3Know (perceive, recognize, and understand with approval) that the Lord is God! It is He Who has made us, not we ourselves [and we are His]! We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.

4Enter into His gates with thanksgiving and a thank offering and into His courts with praise! Be thankful and say so to Him, bless and affectionately praise His name!

5For the Lord is good; His mercy and loving-kindness are everlasting, His faithfulness and truth endure to all generations.

Psalm 100:1-5 (Amplified)

S. G. Duffy

Pay attention, my child, to what I say. Listen carefully. Don’t lose sight of my words. Let them penetrate deep within your heart, for they bring life and radiant health to anyone who discovers their meaning. Proverbs 4:20-22 (NLT)
